The 05/06 Fin Year has seen Jumptown continue to grow and contribute in a major way to the local, National and International Swing Scenes. We have also been a major contributor to the greater dance, music and business community in Canberra. This has been achieved through holding and participation of social events, workshops, competitions, Performances. Plus our growing relationships with local bands, venues, dance schools and businesses and involvement with other parties who promote swing, dance, music, jazz etc. We have watched our swing scene prosper through the development of our teachers and students and their own advancement, along with growing class numbers. A sign of things to come perhaps - it has been so great to see some of our newer students develop at a fast rate through the progress of the opportunities and network we now provide. Above all, it is the great bunch of people that just love what we do, including our students, committee members, teachers, and others who contribute, or have in some way in the past (you know who you are) so much to the success of Jumptown today. Here are a few of the major highlights of the 05/06 Fin Year: 1. Increasing the awareness and exposure of Jumptown and the Canberra swing scene through word of mouth, newsletter database, Canberräng plus other local social events, i.e. Stomp, National swing events and the Performance Team. 2. Growing class numbers and the retention of students at the higher levels. 3. The addition of a ANU Monday night class. 4. The addition of two new Assistant Teachers. 5. Bringing first class International and National workshops to Canberra. 6. Increasing the participation and regularity of Jumptown social events. 7. Increasing the representation of Jumptown students at other major swing events and workshops around Australia. 8. Improving the financial footing of Jumptown. 9. Enhancing the management and operation of our organisation 10. Enhancing our marketing activities and branding for Jumptown through a Marketing Plan, Focus Group and Questionnaire. 11. Growing Canberräng as Jumptown’s premier event of the year 12. Contributing to Canberra businesses through hiring of venues, bands, social activities and Canberräng. 13. Establishing a competition/workshop and public event at Albert Hall with the Jumptown Jam. So what's next? * Two of the great Balboa and Charleston teachers and Camp Lismore veterans Joel and Alison from the USA are coming to Canberra to run some special mid week workshops on the 24th & 25th of October 2006. * We are already planning Canberräng 2007 to be even bigger and better. * As you know we have been doing some marketing and as a result we are rejuvenating jumptown with a bit of a face lift and as a result will be launching our new branding and new look website in the next few months. * The Jumptown Jam on the 23 - 25 March 2007 will see two more awesome International National teachers, JoJo Jackson and Mike Faltesek from the USA and Deb and Glenn Moore all the way from Perth. * We are always looking at ways to improve every aspect of Jumptown from social dancing classes and processes. On behalf of the Committee, thank you for your support and we look forward to loads more fun, dancing and another successful year with all of you. Liam Honer jumptown! President
