What is swing dancing?
Swing dancing is a fun and social dance enjoyed by all ages and originated in the Big Band era of of the 30s and 40s. Since the early 90s swing dancing has been enjoying an energetic revival in Australia and across the world. It's the kind of dance anyone can do and people usually talk about how much fun it is even after their first lesson and then just can't get enough after that. Some of you may have seen Lacey and Neil on the US version of So You Think You Can Dance and the big smiles on their faces (and those of the judges) as they danced Lindy Hop (Swing) for the first time. Some do it for their passion for the dance, others the music, many the social aspect, or to get ready for that big wedding day. Come along to one of our Beginners classes and see what it is all about.
Private Classes
If you feel you want our complete and undivided attention you might want to ask us about private lessons - these will increase your confidence and really work on your technique. Come and chat to us after class about private lessons or email us.
Workshops
Jumptown Swing is committed to bringing the best to Canberra by offering opportunities to learn from great teachers, some home-grown and some with international reputations. Jumptown workshops are always fun, and are a great way to take your dancing to the next level. See the events section to see what's coming up.
Performances
Jumptown Swing has an experienced Performance Troupe 'The Jumptown Jammers', with a range of Lindy Hop, Charleston or Swing-era routines for charity or corporate events, birthdays, dinners, balls weddings etc. We can dress up in our best 20s-50s vintage threads and even recommend some of Canberra's finest swing bands. We can also work the audience with some crowd participation to get them up and doing the Charleston with us in no time. We will get your party really swingin'.
