8. Opportunity to work as a volunteer for Jumptown
Thursday door crew
You can still join the Jumptown Thursday Social door crew. All you need to do is be friendly and spend a little time at the door taking the cover charge and welcoming dancers to the social. Volunteers will be on a roster with one other person on the door.
The more people on the roster – the less time you need to spend on the door. Being part of the door team is a great way to meet people on the Canberra dance scene and ensure you get on everyone’s dance card for the evening… as you can be first in with a dance request as they come in the door!
If you’re interested in being part of the Thursday door team, please ema il committee@jumptown.org or come and say hello to the door staff or any of the committee at the next Thursday social and let them know you’re interested in joining the Thursday team.
Writing for the Newsletter
Ever tried your hand at writing? Would you like to be more involved and frequently in-the-know about local jazz and swing events? Look no further! Jumptown is looking for people to jump into the roster (pun intended) to help write the weekly Jumptown e-newsletter. Email your interest to newsletter@jumptown.org for more details.

10. Live Jazz and Blues around Canberra
The Percy Mayfield revue band, the Nightless Lovers, led by another regular Canberra musician Leo Joseph, is launching their CD, ‘Lost Love’ at Tilley Devine’s Cafe Gallery on Saturday July 23. CDs will be$15; Doors open 6 pm; show kicks off at 9 pm.
Key Grip’s next gig is scheduled for the Old Canberra Inn, Friday 14 October. Stay tuned for more details.
Don’t forget our favourite local radio station “Art Sound FM” is also a good source to find out about local jazz and blues gigs. Art sound often has toe tappin’ swing and sassy blues tunes on the air waves throughout the day and has its ’swing time’ session on Wednesday afternoons and there’s sometimes a blues or swing show on Thursday evenings too. Check out the tunes at 92.7 FM (or 90.3 FM in the Tuggeranong valley). Art Sound often advertise jazz and blues gigs happening around town, so just keep tuned in to Art Sound and let us know if you hear of any gigs that’ll be good for swing dancing and we’ll put it in the newsletter to help get us all out there dancing each week.
