Social Dancing
In addition to one-off events, Jumptown runs several regular and semi-regular social dancing venues for Lindy Hop, Blues and Balboa. Thursdays @ Griffith Neighbourhood Hall
Every off-pay Thursday, Griffith Neighbourhood Hall in Griffith bounces and shakes as a crowd of keen swing dancers bust out to two hours of hard-swingin’ music from a rotation of local DJs. Entry is only $5 at the door, and the dancing kicks off at 8:30 pm.
Venue: Griffith Neighbourhood Hall (behind Aubergine Restaurant, Griffith Shops, Stuart St Griffith)
Blues Basement
Get your Blues fix to start the week off right! On the first and third Sundays of each month, the Blues Basement starts with Beginner (at 6:15 pm) and Intermediate (7:00 pm) drop-in Blues classes, followed by social Blues dancing from 7:45 pm ’til 9. Classes are $12, and social dancing $5.
Venue: K’Motion Dance Studio, 33-35 London Cct (downstairs)
Balboa classes run weekly on Monday nights, starting at 6:30 pm with a Beginner class, and an Intermediate / Advanced class at 7:30 pm, and Balboa social dancing from 8:30 pm.
Kingston Markets Lindy Bomb
Every now and then we like to head out and show the public what this dancing caper is all about – so keep your eye on the Jumptown calendar and come join us as we Lindy Bomb the Old Bus Depot Markets. 12pm on occasional Sundays, inside at the top of the ramp. Canberra Blues Society Monthy Jam
The Canberra Blues Society is having its regular monthly jam at the Harmonie German Club featuring a large wooden floor with plenty of space for dancing.
The host band is Johnny Reynolds Band followed by the jammers who play tunes really suited for dancing Lindy, Balboa and Blues.
Where: Harmonie German Club, Narrabundah
When: Sunday, 21 April 2013, 2pm to 5.30pm
Cost: $5 for non members, $3 for members – great value for live music!
